This play traces the history of Chicago from its days as a frontier outpost to the modern day, told through the eyes of the Irish, African-American, Eastern European, and Latino immigrants who came here, celebrating the unique contributions each group has made to the historical and cultural life of the city.

Each segment of the show has its own tone and style, from the documentary realism of the Irish story to the fairy tale setting of the gentle Mexican girl who came to work here as a seamstress and became a courageous labor leader. Your students will see the Irish famine, the great Black migration of the 1920s, the post-WW 1 Eastern European influx, and the Latino explosion, and put all of those Chicago events into a larger historical context.

Designed for students grades 3-8, this seven-member ensemble piece is an excellent adjunct to your Chicago history module, and helps put an emotional, human face on the story of the city we love.
